Fostering cultural humility, inclusivity and safer spaces for gender diverse clients
By Jesse Bosse
This is an introduction-level training geared towards all care providers interested in developing cultural humility in working with gender diverse individuals. The workshop was originally recorded in French and was dubbed in English by Dr. Jesse Bossé, C.Psych.
Please note that this workshop is available only for those with a Professional Plan.
What you will learn
· Learning the basic language commonly used when referring to gender diverse individuals and communities;
· Being able to think about gender from a historical lens and understanding the role of colonization in the erasure and destruction of the rich gender diversity that predated European colonization;
· Understanding trans, non-binary and all gender diverse identities as a matter of normal human diversity and not a matter of pathology;
· Understanding the (ongoing) role of health care disciplines (including psychology) in pathologizing normal gender diversity;
· Understanding the basics of gender identity exploration and development;
· Understanding how the past is still present: cisnormativity as a persisting consequence of colonization;
· Understanding the ties between cisnormative discrimination, minority stress, suicidality and other negative consequences on mental and physical health;
· Learning concrete ways to start recognizing and dismantling cisnormativity in your own practice and begin fostering a safer space for gender diverse individuals.
