Theoretical models for the practice of clinical supervision

By Julie Gosselin
Training module 2 h

To properly structure clinical supervision practice, it's important to be able to refer to a theoretical model that suits our professional context, theoretical orientation and the nature of our practice. This workshop offers an overview of the broad categories of conceptual and theoretical models for clinical supervision practice, illustrating how each model can color clinical supervision practice, and how to integrate different models to develop your own integrative model.

To better integrate the content from this workshop, you are invited to join our next discussion group associated with Workshop #3 in the Competency-Based Clinical Supervision series. See our calendar of upcoming events for the next available dates!

If you intend to complete several ProPsychNet training workshops, please note that it is much more advantageous to purchase the annual REGULAR subscription, with which you can complete ALL available workshops for a single annual fee of $550 plus taxes.

REMINDER: If you have a regular membership this workshop is included and already is accessible in MY ACTIVITIES.

What you will learn

  • To know about the different theoretical models for the practice of clinical supervision, including those based in clinical practice, developmental models, those developed specifically for the practice of supervision, and more recent models focused on compassion fatigue prevention and the supervision of assessments
  • To understand how a supervisor's worldview and values impact their choice of models
  • To identify which models are best aligned and most relevant with the clinician's supervision practice
