This workshop will present best practices in the assessment and treatment of chronic pain. Specifically, it will cover:

  • Review of core competencies for pain management.
  • Overview of pain, including gate-control theory, neuromatrix, and social communication model
  • Understanding a prototypical person’s experience living with pain
  • Overview of the Psychology Pain Assessment
  • Self-Management approaches to chronic pain, including acceptance, psycho-education, myths and messaging, goal setting, self-monitoring, working with grief and loss, relaxation, activity pacing, and assertive communication
