This workshop focuses on the experience of stress and resilience in relation to the post-pandemic experience and includes practical tools to develop our professional resilience as mental health professionals. This workshop was originally recorded in French and was dubbed in English by Dr. Mélanie Joanisse, C.Psych.

Description

1- Discussion of the continuum of reactions to chronic stress

a.               Discuss common reactions (stress, anxiety, fatigue) as well as others that may be less discussed but experienced (shame, learned helplessness, resentment).

b.               Discuss the effects of virtual care on clinicians' well-being.

 

2- Help learners identify where they fall on the continuum, reflect on what triggers them and what helps them stabilize.

 

3- Help learners take a moment to reflect on their experience, their journey and the changes they've had to adapt to over the past four years, and see what strengths emerge.

 

4- Discussion of common challenges to implementing strategies or adopting behaviors that promote resilience in oneself and others.

 

5- Discussion of the concepts of grit, courage, common humanity and diversity, and how they can contribute to the implementation of strategies.

What you will learn

1. Explain the concept of resilience

        separate myth from reality 
        identify the ingredients and characteristics of resilience

 

2. Recognize and describe reactions to stress, fatigue and signs of resilience in yourself, your patients and your colleagues (team). 

       Special attention to resilience in healthcare leaders

 

3. Identify barriers to implementing strategies to optimize resilience and how to optimize strategy adoption without falling into a prescriptive mode.

 

4. Identify concrete tools that can be put into practice by you, your teams and your customers.
